1 Kings 18:31-33

³¹ Elijah took twelve stones, the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob to whom the word of the Lord came saying, “Your name will be Israel.” ³² With the stones he built an altar to the name of the Lord. He dug a trench around the altar deep enough to hold two measures of seed. ³³ He piled up the wood, and cut up the ox into pieces. He laid them on the wood and said, “Fill four barrels with water and pour them on the burnt sacrifice and the wood.”
